How do you wash a down sleeping bag?
In general, you should wash your down sleeping bag (as well as its synthetic fibre-filled counterparts) as little as possible. If dry, wash it in the washing machine as follows:
- Wash the sleeping bag in a large conventional washing machine, DO NOT use a top loader!
- Max. Water temperature 30 °C and only use down or mild detergent, but only a third of the usual amount.
- Rinse thoroughly at least 5 times, then press the water out or spin for max. 20 seconds, DO NOT wring!
Drying instructions:
- Dry the sleeping bag in the dryer at max. 30 °C.
- Use two dryer balls so that the down is evenly distributed and the sleeping bag retains its soft texture.
- Alternatively, you can spread the sleeping bag out to dry on a straight surface.
- NEVER hang the sleeping bag to dry!
To prolong the life of your sleeping bag, ticking is recommended. Individual stains can also be rubbed out easily with lukewarm soapy water and a sponge, light dirt with a stiff brush. This saves you from washing the sleeping bag too much.
